  •  Burglars tend to turn up empty handed and use items found around the property to gain entry. Make sure you keep the area around your property free from such items. Tools, planks of wood, bricks, ladders, etc.
  • Use a well secured safe for valuables and documents. ALWAYS keep them in there, it is far too easy to say to yourself "I'll put them in there later" Do it now.
  • If the property is to be left un-ocupied for some time, fit timers to internal lights and a radio.
  • Keep all keys securely hidden. If burglars gain entry to your property, they will need to open doors and windows to remove large items.
  • The use of prickly/thorny plants in vulnerable areas like below windows, inside chainlink fence, etc.
  • Bars/Rejas are not just for show. They need to be strong and very well built into the wall. Burglars commonly wrench a couple of bars out which gives them enough room to get in through the window. These bars should be mad strong and secure with weld all round and not just as a tack to hold the bars in place. Hollow bars can be bent and snapped with relative ease.
  • If there is a vehicle in the drive, get a nieghbour to move it daily or every couple of days.
  • We have recently been making very strong panels that fit between the bars and the window. With these in place the burglar can no longer remove a couple of bars and get through the window. More info here
  • Fitting a burglar alarm. There are many different flavours of burglar alarm. Remote properties can benefit from special features like GSM dialers, these will dial pre-determined numbers on trigger, maybe alerting the nieghbour or person down the lane. Another feature that I strongly recommend on these properties is an internal sounder. These are extremely loud, around 130db and would make it very unpleasant and difficult for anyone to concentrate while looking for valuables. More info here
  • Last of all but not least, please be sure to be extra vigilant and do check on nieghbouring properties. Be sure to note any suspicious vehicles or people.
